Let me start by saying, it’s very very strange to write about your own wedding when you have been planning them for others for so long!
David and I were married on November 9, 2019 at the historic Fowler House Mansion in downtown Lafayette, Indiana.
Both natives of Lafayette, and having both lived a good chunk of our early adult lives downtown, it was clear to us when we started the planning process 18-months prior that Fowler House would be the natural choice for our day.
I have family members who remember running through the Fowler House when it was still a museum!
David does incredible leatherwork, so we included leather elements throughout the day: accents on the boutonnieres, the flower girl baskets for our sweet nieces, and a valet tray with our initials and wedding date.
I was surprised to learn that David had requests when it came to his boutonniere! Lavender and red roses are sentimental to him, so I built our jewel-toned color palette from there.
To my delight, this direction gave me the flexibility to incorporate a wide variety of colors and textures with our flowers.
Our taller centerpieces were the real show-stoppers and featured purple allium and hydrangea, lavender snapdragons, garden roses, fresh pomegranates, rose hips, and magnolia tips, among others.
Our shorter centerpieces included, among others, Juliet and Romantic Antike garden roses, hypericum berries in brown and peach, copper beech leaves, magnolia tips, ranunculus, and assorted greenery.
Springs of italian ruscus greenery were tucked into the napkin for each guest.
Bouquets for myself and my ‘maids included trailing greenery, purple hydrangea and allium, garden roses, and cymbidium orchids.
The aisle was lined with purple hydrangea, larkspur, and greenery. A garland of magnolia tips hung over us during our ceremony in the former reflecting pool garden area.
The florals along the aisle were repurposed throughout the property after the ceremony.
I, of course, am so thankful to our incredible vendors: Dave Mason at IS Photographic for the stunning images that we will cherish forever. Scones and Doilies for making the most beautiful canvas out of cake. The catering staff at Fowler House who received many compliments from our guests. Taia at White Willow Events who saved the day many times over and problem solved anything that came up on the day of the wedding — I didn’t have to worry about a thing, and that is priceless!
And my incredible Rubia staff! I loved being able to set up things with them on the morning of the wedding. They were up for all the challenges the day presented and were so excited about all the details I had dreamed up. When I came back later in the afternoon I had to rush for the kleenex upon seeing all the final elements in place!
And yes, we even filled the fountain with hundreds of fresh white roses!
I tried not to wax poetic or go on and on here because you’re probably visiting for the pretty pictures. But right after the wedding, I could only think to describe it as “better than a dream”– and it was! Having our favorite people in one place, surrounded by flowers was exactly the celebration I had hoped for.
